Jimm Revelle Memorial Racquetball Tournament

The second annual tournament for Jimm and his family will be appropriately called The Jimm Revelle Memorial Racquetball Tournament.
It will be held in early November at the Living Fit Health Club in Westminster, where Jimm always played.. organized by Jimm's dear friends Kathy and Joe Cornell.
The tournament went very well. Good food and fun was had by all.. and due to a great turnout, a good amount was earned for the JR Revelle Fund. Details on that, as well as racquetball placements and pictures, will be up on the Jimmrball blog soon.
Many thanks to Joe and Kathy Cornell for another fabulous job.. and to all who attended and contributed!

Date Worthy of Note

May 29th 2008 marks one year since Jimm first went into the hospital for his pancreatitis. He was admitted at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. The beginning phases of his treatment are documented HERE.
This turned out to be the beginning of a nightmare lived by Jimm, all who knew him.. and especially those who loved him dearly.

We have learned that the Community Foundation of Carroll County passed along funds to Deborah for Jimm's funeral, but it was not enough to cover the entire cost. However, after Jimm's passing, friends rallied to contribute over $2,000.00 which enabled the Foundation to completely cover all funeral expenses. Thanks as always to all Jimm's faithful friends!

James Russell Revelle.. June 5th 1947 - February 18th 2008

Our good friend Jimm Revelle lost his valiant fight today at 7:58 PM after a protracted illness caused by acute pancreatitis and subsequent medical complications. He passed at the University of Maryland Medical Center where he had been hospitalized for 8 months and 17 days. In the initial phase of his illness he spent 3 days at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD.
Present at his side were his wife Deborah, daughter Jenna, step-daughters Laura and Mandi, and other members of the remarkable Revelle family.

Information on funeral arrangements will be forwarded when they become available.

Rest in peace my friend.

*Note: January 20th- Care Cards

The recent news about Jimm is very upsetting. Our first inclination is of course to feel bad for him and his incredible family. For me, that was followed by frustration at not being able to do anything.
Then I got thinking.. we have Deborah and the family. They are being swamped with expenses and drive at least 60 miles each day back and forth to the hospital. The cost for fuel alone is huge. We also have Jimm. He is still hanging in there, and can see and hear. He knows what's going on and needs even more support now than ever before.

Let's send a get well card to Jimm. In it could be three things: a message of hope and encouragement;
a picture of you and your family taken off the computer.. just printed on plain paper and taped to the card would be fine; and a gas card for whatever amount for Deborah, or whichever family member she wants to hand it off to.

So Jimm will hear an upbeat greeting, be able to use his good eyes and look at a picture of friends, and the load will be lightened by a small amount for Deborah and the family. If a bunch of us do something similar it would send a hugely positive signal to all concerned.. that we are still here, and still hoping for better things for our good friend. Instead of a care package- it will be a sort of care card.

If you agree that it's a good idea do it!
Gift cards for other daily expenses like food, etc. would be great too.. just as long as it's from a major chain that can be found in all areas of the state of Maryland. Of course enclosing a small check would be a wonderful gesture as well.
If you can't do the money or gift card thing.. or even the picture part, please join in by sending a card to wish Jimm the very best. Getting these cards may not make him improve.. but they sure won't hurt!

If your card contains gift cards or money, you could send it to Deborah's home address to ensure it gets to her safely.. for cards alone, the hospital is fine.

Home address:

The Jimm Revelle Family
430 Oakton Way
Abingdon, MD 21009-3201

Or for cards only:

Mr. James Revelle
Gudelsky 4 Rm 404
University of Maryland Medical Center
22 S. Greene Street
Baltimore, MD 21201

Whatever their contents, having a lot of these cards coming in will send a very personal and heartwarming message to a family that is pretty low right now.. and doing this will make us all feel like we are at least doing a little something.

Comments section is open for any questions or ideas

Thanks,
aw

*Jimm Revelle Fund - Direct Donations

Donations for Jimm and his family are being collected through, and handled by The Community Foundation of Carroll County. This is an umbrella endowment that has enabled us to create the Jimm Revelle Fund.. and to offer concerned friends the ability to make tax deductible contributions. In return, the JR Fund's size permitting, CFCC will assist in paying Jimm's medical bills and other expenses that insurance does not cover.. including mortgage payments and home utility expenses. Each contribution will be answered with a 'thank-you' and a receipt for tax purposes.

Make checks payable to:
The Jimm Revelle Fund

Please Send Checks to:
Jimm Revelle Fund
255 Clifton Blvd, Suite 203
